Learn all about your family heritage and map your family tree with the help of some of these resources.


Start with a Google search for significant ancestors and you may even find your family history has already been done! Check for names from your pedigree as you go to uncover useful information and sources.

Visit our online catalogue and search for resources held by Hume Libraries. If you are researching your family history using a Hume Libraries' computer you can access and These databases will help you to locate historical records, news articles, photos, maps, and family trees. You can also use the Genealogy and family history suggested websites found in our Online Library.

Charts and Forms

Charts and forms are essential for organising and presenting your research and pedigree. They may be copied from books, used as an integral part of a specialist computer program or downloaded free from internet sites such as Ancestry and Genealogy.

Genealogy Get-Together

Meet at Sunbury Library on the first Wednesday of the month, 10am - 12noon. For more information, please contact the Sunbury Library on 9356 6970.

Hume U3A Genealogy Group - meet on the last Monday of each month, 9am - 1pm at Broadmeadows Library. Please contact Hume U3A on 9309 4983 Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 12noon.

Sunbury Family History Society - meet on the third Wednesday of each month, 8pm, at the Sunbury Senior Citizens Club Rooms.

State Library of Victoria Genealogy Centre

The State Library of Victoria Genealogy Centre has an extensive collection of resources such as indexes to births, deaths and marriages, cemetery and immigration records, electoral rolls and the Family Search and Ancestry online databases.

The Genealogy Collection also has an extensive range of supporting research materials including collective biographies, atlases, histories of surnames, research manuals and guides to primary sources held elsewhere.
