Sunbury Library services will commence from their new temporary home ‘Sunbury Youth and Library Services’ from Tuesday 5 December, as works commence on the $19 million Hume Global Learning Centre project in Sunbury (HGLC-S).

The library will close its doors for the last time in its current location at 8pm, Thursday 30 November and reopen in its temporary home at midday, Tuesday 5 December.

Hume Mayor, Councillor Geoff Porter, said the full Sunbury Library catalogue would still be available both at the library’s new temporary home and online throughout the 18 month relocation.

“Construction of the HGLC-S is an exciting prospect for the Hume community but we also know that residents want to be able to access Council services with as little interruption as possible,” Cr Porter said.

“The Sunbury Youth and Library Services facility ensures all residents are still able to access library services until construction of the HGLC-S is complete.

“Additionally, the co-location of Sunbury Library with the Youth Centre will have no impact on the youth services programs either – in fact, the co-location presents an opportunity for increased collaboration between the two services, and a chance to share diverse skills and knowledge with a larger community audience. ”

Demolition of the existing library building will take place next month, with works scheduled to begin on the HGLC-S early next year.

“If Victoria is the Education State then I want to see Hume become the education precinct,” Cr Porter said.

“The HGLC-S is a significant step in this direction, bringing world-class learning and community facilities to Sunbury.

“Upon completion, the HGLC-S will be an active, vibrant and welcoming community hub, and will be an inspiring place to meet, share, learn, create and collaborate in an ever-changing digital world.

“Hume City Council is exceptionally proud to be delivering the new Hume Global Learning Centre in partnership with the Victorian Government.”
